Schubert’s great G major quartet of 1826 is a magnificent late work, and has all the hallmarks of mature Schubert, containing his most daring harmonic writing in the slow movement. Berg’s op 3 quartet of 84 years later is also an innovative work that won praise from his teacher Schoenberg, although it baffled both performers and listeners at its premiere.
‘A performance of ferocity and concentration…the Kuss Quartet hold back nothing in their depiction of spine chilling power…’ said Gramophone of the Schubert.
