“Adam holds a Bachelor of Music with First-Class Honours from the Queensland Conservatorium and a Master’s Degree from the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki, Finland. His main teachers have been Natasha Vlassenko and Erik T. Tawaststjerna.
Adam has won many prizes and competitions including first place and the audience prize in the 2009 Lev Vlassenko Piano Competition. He also received Griffith University’s Brisbane Club
Award, University Medal, Conservatorium Medal and Music Medal. In Finland he has won first prize in the 2012 Helmi Vesa Piano Competition and second place in the Sibelius Academy’s
Concerto Award. Adam’s debut solo CD From Shadows received great praise upon release.
Fine Music Magazine awarded the recording five stars, saying “this performance is so full of enthusiasm, drive, delicacy, power and precision…Herd’s playing sparkles clean and sharp.”
Adam has recently been accepted into the Artistic Doctoral program at the Sibelius Academy, commencing 2015. His studies will focus on jazz-influenced piano repertoire of the Twentieth Century and in particular the performance of music by Nikolai Kapustin. This project will also allow Adam to pursue his passion for teaching as he as he investigates the impact of imitative teaching strategies in both jazz and classical piano pedagogy.”
